South American Annuals
Cynolebias griseus
The only South American Annual (SAA) I have at the moment is Cynolebias griseus Nova Roma BR 2014/05. I have found this species to not be that aggressive, but will eat anything that fits in their mouth. So predation on smaller fry is common, therefore you need to separate the larger fry on a regular basis or you will end up with just 1 or 2 large fish which are normally the males. Males will reach 10-12cm within 3 -4 months if well fed, but the females are smaller.
My original pair was bought by my wife at the 2015 BKA Convention auction, and I am on my 3rd generation now. I find that they are not very prolific, but raising just a tri or two for the next generation is more than enough as they take up a lot of space. Though the lack of eggs could be that I cannot find a way of keeping the peat inside the breeding container. These are "peat divers" and when a pair goes into the container then the peat goes everywhere. If anyone has any method for preventing this then I would definitely like to hear from you.
Now all I need is a photo, but mine are just not good enough at the moment.
