Paraphanius Mento
The name was moved from Aphanius to Paraphanius in 2020.
(2017) At the moment the only strain I currently have is Aphanius Mento "Spring Inlet". In the literature I can not find any reference to such a collection code/name (unless someone can correct me), so I will be dropping the "Spring Inlet" part of the name if I pass on any youngsters. The original fish were purchased at the NEY auction in July 2015. I have been keeping their offspring in one of my bottom tanks at 20°C ( as they like cooler water) in my new fishroom. Though during the Spring of 2017 I will probably put them outside, either in my small fish pond or in a large plastic container, as they should be able to cope with the normal UK temperatures all year round. Unfortunately I lost all of these fish during the winter of 2017/8, but have no idea why.
(2020) Now have a batch of young adult Paraphanius mento Zengen in my fishroom. These are from eggs that I purchased from Spain earlier in the year, and after a few weeks in my fishroom post hatching, they spent the rest of the summer outside in the garden. Though as the nights started to cool down I brought them back into my fishroom at the beginning of November. Hopefully I will get some eggs from them over the winter, and then plan to put them back in the garden once things start to warm up come next Spring.
